Amy and Ryan are so very much in love with each other. So much in love, that she followed him and his pilot career to the North Pole (really! North Pole, Alaska) and planned their wedding from her computer. Amy’s family spends summers in the seaside town of Duck, North Carolina (in the Outer Banks) and the location was just right for the emphasis on family she planned for the wedding. A natural designer, Amy used the palette of the landscape, warm sand and bright blue skies; adding classy greys and vivid punches of magenta and orange for a perfect combination of colors. She must have been used to extreme temperatures and ready for some warmth because the day of her outdoor ceremony was an incredible 110 degrees (Farenheit) and humid.
The bridal party, immediate family, close friends, and the lucky two of us stayed in beautiful beachside rentals next door to the wedding venue. Mischa even broke out his famous margarita recipe the night before the rehearsal and we started off our visit to Duck on a very festive note. We decided to take the first sighting and pre-ceremony bridal party portraits in the upstairs living room of the largest beach house to incorporate the view as well as include the air-conditioning. It was the perfect opportunity to use our super wide specialty lens (the Canon 14mm rectilinear) which allowed us to capture the full bridal party in a small space with minimal distortion (unlike what you see with a similarly wide “fish eye” lens). We quickly learned tricks to keep our lenses from fogging up between indoor and outdoor temperature changes and had a really wonderful time despite the heat.
The locations you’ll see in their album are the Sanderling beach house rentals , the adjacent ceremony location was on “the Main Inn Deck” , and the reception was across the road on the sound side at “the pavilion”. Sugar Snap Events provided the gorgeous flowers and the bride designed all the paper goods herself. Impressive!
Ryan wrote on Google’s review site: “My wife and I are both photographers and so choosing a wedding photographer was an important choice for our special day. I’ve known Mischa and his photography for over 14 years and it was an easy choice to ask him to photograph our wedding, even though the ceremony was on the east coast. Mischa is professional, talented, and very good at putting his subjects at ease. We are extremely happy with both the photos and the entire experience. He has the confidence and ability that come with a solid background in photography and years of experience documenting the subtle details and energy of profoundly special events. Without a doubt, if we were to do it all again, we would want Mischa to be there with his heartfelt smile, laugh, and discerning vision.”
For their album Amy & Ryan went with a medium Cypress album. These are gorgeous handcrafted albums, covered with linen or silk fabric (they chose grey silk) and accented with ribbon (they chose black satin). The album comes with a matching presentation box for archival storage. Each page is deckle edged giving it a fine art look and expensive feel.
We hope you enjoy their album layout and fall in love with Amy and Ryan as much as we have.
